If Mahatma Gandhi reappears, even hypothetically, it would be exciting to know his views on computers and its uses. Well, we put a caveat that most of his views will be anachronistic. Even so, in our seemingly free world, we must offer him a chance, granting he was a highly erudite and intelligent man of his time.
Why choose Gandhi and computers? As he had seen cars, phones and other technical stuff, it would take him few days to identify with swanky buildings, flashy cars, mobiles and other modern things. We tried showing him what he had not seen: a computer.
We saw a problem. Even with astute mind, it would take him days, maybe months to learn the jargon of computers and the cyberspace. It would be difficult task to explain him how every bit of past and present information appears instantly on the plastic panel by tapping some keys.
To make it simple, we explained him that computer is a multifunctional machine, the Internet is the system of billions of interconnected machines and the Web is the collection of billions of interconnected documents. As a demo, we opened Google and typed ‘Mahatma Gandhi’. Within a second, it showed about 3 million ‘results’.
Gandhi was not prone to flattery but we could see he was secretly elated to find so much information on himself. Then on, he got hooked to the machine and within no time learned to operate it. Gradually, he found computers have multiple uses affecting the every sphere of human life.
At the time of his return to heaven, we asked his views on this world and his experience with computers in particular. He avoided saying much on the former, as he was aghast to find the world was still rife with the ills he had left behind. On the latter, his verdict was as follows:
Why young people waste productive time sitting before the dumb machine for socializing?
That’s it, enough. We bade goodbyes to Gandhi. He promised never to return. Readers, please let loose your imagination and send feedback on what Gandhi would like or dislike about computers, the Net, the Web.
Website management has come a long way since the early days. Now, a site requires concerted efforts by many people to keep it running effectively. The outsourcing industry helps a great deal in managing the entire process of website management.
The Internet and the Web we see today has undergone a sea change from what it was in the earlier days. Web sites developed in the earlier days were simpler in form and function and easier to maintain. The internal project team of an organization or a single external service provider was capable enough to look after the design, development and maintenance of a web site and its online presence.
Those days are over. Managing the web sites is no longer the realm of a solo entity. Online projects these days require joint efforts of project managers, designers, developers, editors and SEO experts in addition to internal team in order to create an effective online presence.
The explosive growth of the Internet, complex web sites and applications, increased user expectations, the development of online business and social networking sites and the constant need for online visibility are some of the contributory factors affecting the shift in website management.
Thankfully, web design outsourcing and offshore web development companies provide a helping hand in managing the complete lifecycle of a web site. Website Management Outsourcing or WMO is a subset of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) whereby a single service provider can manage the entire course of web sites.
As with the other forms of outsourcing, WMO companies are now able to offer a variety of services such as offshore web designing, web application development and offshore SEO services from a single place. The most common examples of jobs undertaken by WMO companies relate to design, development, maintenance and marketing of client web sites.
Apart from the apparent benefits like quality work and quick execution, WMO companies look after the ongoing maintenance and marketing of web sites. The industry is quite flexible in its service offerings. Clients can entrust the entire process to third parties or select an offshore web design or an offshore SEO company for handling the design and SEO aspects respectively.
Despite the low per capita computer and internet usage, the oddity of success achieved by India’s outsourcing industry seems miraculous. This article puts things in proper perspective for those curious to know the reasons behind the success.
In the emerging era of the Web, nobody had thought that one day India would become the indisputable leader in web-related services. Web designing outsourcing in particular is the case in point.
India is a country of contradictions. Its modern cities boast of swanky malls, buildings and cars. On the other hand, it seems much of India lives in a time warp in rural areas, bereft of modern amenities, least to say of computers. Even the urban poor and middle-income families have little or no access to computers. For the majority populace living a frugal life, computers are low in priority. If we keep aside such demographics, the real picture emerges.
With computers beyond the reach common people, one often finds a paradoxical situation of computerized banks and government offices even in rural areas. This shows India is the country of great contradictions.
In context of India having low computer usage and internet connectivity compared to similar economies in Asia, the success achieved by Indian companies is something of a miracle. When looking for reasons behind the success of web design outsourcing industry in India, one should look into its contributory factors other than per capita computer and internet usage. Here goes.
• Entrepreneurship: buoyed by the globalization and the free enterprise policies adopted by the government, Indian business community has invested and is investing heavily in information technology enabled services (ITES). Web outsourcing company makes a major chunk of IT services.
• Economics: for business people on either side, the affordability offered by Indian website design outsourcing industry tends to create a win-win situation.
• Efficiency: there are no two doubts about the efficiency and expertise of Indian services providers in all areas of web-related services, including Web 2.0 design outsourcing.
• Education: there is a large pool of educated people in urban centers, ready with essential skills in web technology.
• Employment: again, the large pool of IT educated people provides a steady source of employable workforce.
• English fluency: with English being the language of the Web, and it being the preferred medium of instruction in educational institutions, Indian students score over other countries in English fluency. They are able to do jobs in workable and business English, if not of high literary standard.
Web 2.0 design outsourcing India has arrived and is thriving. The ubiquitous Web 2.0 design company in India will continue to flourish, notwithstanding the outcry raised in outsourcing countries about the loss of jobs and revenues.
When the first generation computers came into being, there was not an iota of thought that one day these machines will rule the world of communication and business. The Internet and the Web changed all that. People began to use computers for communicating (e-mail, chat, messaging), socializing, buying, selling, education, meetings, conferences and what not. The increased reliance on computer gave rise to the development of newer and newer applications.
In came the next generation handheld devices called smartphones (notably iPhone and Blackberry) that combined all salient features of a mobile phone and a computer. Here again, the rampart use of these gizmos gave rise to the new breed of iPhone app developer community. An iPhone application takes totally a new approach to development as opposed to computers.
Due to its small screen size, need for recharging, limited memory, and most importantly the different operating system, iPhone application development is altogether a different ball game. This does not mean that the iPhone, despite its constraints, would not do anything a computer would. The difference lies in the usage of a computer in comparison with an iPhone. The iPhone severs as a personal accessory and its preferred use is for gaming, entertaining, socializing, e-mailing, GPS navigation and many other leisure activities while one is on the move. Even though there are thousands of apps (220,000+ on last count) running on the iPhone, the demand for new applications does not appear like dying.
Countries like India provide ideal setting for outsourcing iPhone application development. Prospective clients can hire iPhone app developer from India for right work at right price and right time. Many an iPhone application development company established in India provide all the services under one roof, be it iPhone app design and creating different applications as demanded by the clients.
One is not sure where the world of handheld devices will take us. For now, it appears that the dream predicted by Web 3.0 followers is beginning to realize. The world of wearable computers and ultra-smart gizmos is not far. Let us see what the technology has in store for us.
India’s outsourcing industry is at the stage where its success is hotly discussed in informed circles. Instead of arguing its pros and cons, it’s time to analyze its present and future implications and let the industry take its own course.
There are no two doubts about the supremacy of India’s web development industry. Quality work, dirt-cheap rates, timely completion and ongoing service are some of the attributes that make India the choice destination. Regardless of the uproar raised about loss of jobs, revenue and taxes in the countries that outsource web design and development work, the industry will survive as long as the companies at both the end see the benefits.
Enterprise knows no bounds. History shows that from generations, traders throughout the world have developed business relationships. Why only traders, let us not forget that the governments have also dabbled in business. Countries that see the red now should know it were the merchants who first laid the foundation of colonization. Business is the give and take relationship. One country’s loss is another country’s gain in the process.
In this age of globalization, it is futile to argue on the pros and cons of outsourcing to India. Presently, the industry is at its best comfort level and caters to the multiple demands of the web-based business. Thousands of websites are launched daily. It is practically impossible for a single country to garner the resources to deal with such a large volume of work. Website owners in one country provide the ideas; service providers in other country give shape to the idea. It is as simple as that.
Businesses thrive and die on their own. While India is the absolute leader as long as outsource website development India industry is thriving, many other counties have chipped in, notably China and the Philippines. While India has advantages with regard to its educated workforce and fluency in English and other languages, competing countries are investing heavily in training their people to take their piece of pie. Only time will tell who will get the icing. It’s better to let the business chart its own course.
Meanwhile, futurologists argue that eventually the Semantic Web and Web 3.0 will take over and deal with the information on its own. Computers will talk to computers without human intervention. This will have lasting impact on every human activity, including the web development industry.

Innumerable articles have been written and are being written on the success attained by Indian firms in IT outsourcing. Whether it is Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO), medical transcription or web designing and development, India’s leadership is unquestionable.
Talking of offshore outsourcing to India and the success achieved by Indian firms in this area, the discussion is usually directed towards the cost-efficient services coupled with competence and skills shown by India’s educated workforce. These are but apparent reasons. Clients are, after all, businesspersons. They would demand the price for every penny spent. Had the Indian service providers not been proficient and affordable, the clients would think twice before handing their projects, often with sensitive data, to Indian tech firms.
So, what are the real reasons behind India’s success in offshore outsourcing, despite the low per-capita computer and internet usage compared to many smaller countries in Asia? Let us analyze some of the behind the scene reasons.
Post-liberalization factors: in the early 1990s, India suddenly overhauled its stifling socialist system and opened the gates for business and industry to free-market economy. This included priority to information and communication technology. This coincided with the rise of the Internet and explosion of the World Wide Web and provided the perfect timing and setting. Indian hi-tech service firms took the opportunity to invest and thrive in the liberalized environment.
Educated workforce: despite poor showing by India as far as primary education is concerned, there is an inexhaustible, young and employable workforce, most of them just out of the colleges, ready to learn computers and develop skills to find jobs in the outsourcing industry. For many job seekers, the immediate motivation may be the societal pressure of contributing to the family kitty. It is another matter that the larger interest of developing their career by getting higher education is ignored.
Affinity with the languages: the lingua franca of the communication and the Web is English. India has a huge pool of people that can understand, speak and write in workable English of near-native fluency, if not of high standard. Where this affinity comes from and why other outsourcing destinations like China and the Philippines lack in this area? The answer is that Indic languages are part of the Indo-European group of languages and share many common characteristics with western European languages. This gives the average educated Indian a natural affinity to learn English and other languages of the Indo-European group.
Now Let’s start to video chat, voice chat and group chat in one single click. Yes! Gmail launch new features for online communication for all Gmail users.
Video chat, voice chat, and group chat have all been available for some time within Gmail, but they’ve been curiously tucked away. Getting them up and running required fidgeting with a little menu at the bottom of each chat window.
